For real
Today was the real one, but the fake ones were better! I am speaking of papa’s birthday, of course.
Papa received a few presents a day before his birthday and he appointed me his official present opener. I was more than willing!
Unfortunately, all he got were some new shirts and a bag. Piffle! Papa, don’t you need more toy cars and trucks on office table?
When grandma wished papa a happy birthday today, I realised that all that song-singing and candle-blowing and cake-eating and present-opening were just practice!
I was hoping that the real party would start, but it all went downhill from that point. I asked papa if we were going to get another cake. He replied that we were not. Then he left for work! Double piffle!
What is this world coming to? People should not have to go to work on their birthdays! Let my papa go! If you don’t, I’ll bite you in the nuts (I am just the right height)!
When papa finally got home, I decided that I should give him a proper present. I took one of the boxes that used to hold a present and put most of my toy cars into it.
Then I called papa over and tried to give the present to him. Unfortunately, the bottom of the box fell out and my cars came crashing out!
Papa said that my present made him happy and that it was “the thought that counts” (in that case, I think we should have more cake!). But why were there tears in your eyes, papa? Aren’t birthdays happy occasions? Are you that old?
