Progress?
Three steps forward and two steps back… is a funny way to walk. Actually that is how my folks measure my progress.
While my parents marvel at how fast I am picking new things up (literally and figuratively), they are also frustrated at how I seem to have “forgotten” some things I have learned.
For example, for several months I stayed out of the kitchen by never crossing the line between the dining area and the kitchen. What a fool I was! There was nothing to stop me from walking in, so now I make occasional excursions into that forbidden zone. My folks should be thankful that I still walk out after being told to do so… eventually!
I also used to signal my folks that I had to poop. They then put me on my throne so that I could deliver my royal decree: I made brown! I have reverted to pooping in my diapers. I have taught them my new signal for poop and even tell them that I have pooped, but only after I have pooped… hee-hee!
They don’t seem to understand that there is only so much space in my head. As I learn new things, I move older things aside. For example, I now say “Thank you!” when I get something I want or I sign it if my mouth is full. I also say “Night, night!” before I go to sleep. But I sometimes put aside blowing kisses and saying “hello” or “goodbye” to complete strangers.
So mama and papa, if you want me to pick up after myself, sing songs, and name colors, animals, and other objects, you have to cut me some slack! Thank you and night-night!
